About Kat, Your Counsellor

image1_edited.jpg

Hi, I'm Kat

Choosing a counsellor is a personal thing. You’re trusting someone with parts of your life that you may not have spoken about before, so I think it’s important that you get a sense of the person you’re choosing to work with.

I’m a warm, approachable and down-to-earth counsellor, and I genuinely enjoy getting to know people and understanding what makes them who they are. I’m interested in the whole person, rather than simply the difficulty that has brought you to counselling.

Over the years, I’ve had the privilege of working with people from many different backgrounds and supporting them through a wide range of experiences. My work has included supporting people through trauma, relationships, anxiety, burnout, low self-esteem, life changes and many of the challenges that can come with simply trying to navigate life.

I don’t believe you need to arrive at counselling with everything worked out — or even knowing exactly what you need. Sometimes you just know that something doesn’t feel right, that you’re struggling, or that you’d like to understand yourself a little better.

I’ll offer you a space where you can be yourself, without judgement or expectation. I’ll listen, be curious with you and help you make sense of what’s going on, while respecting that you are the expert in your own life.

Counselling can sometimes involve difficult conversations and uncomfortable feelings, but it can also be a space to pause, reflect and begin to see things differently. My hope is that you leave our work together with a greater understanding of yourself, more compassion for who you are, and a clearer sense of what you want for your life.

Areas I have experience supporting:

Over the years, I’ve supported people with a wide range of experiences and difficulties. Everyone’s situation is different, but some of the areas I have experience working with include:

  • Anxiety and worry

  • Stress and feeling overwhelmed

  • Low mood and depression

  • Self-esteem and confidence

  • Relationship difficulties

  • Family and interpersonal difficulties

  • Trauma and difficult past experiences

  • Grief and loss

  • Life changes and transitions

  • Work-related stress and burnout

  • University and student-related difficulties

  • Feeling stuck or unsure about the future

  • Difficult emotions and feeling unable to cope

  • People-pleasing and difficulties with boundaries

  • Perfectionism and self-criticism

  • Identity and sense of self

  • Coping with change and uncertainty

  • Self-development and personal growth

You don’t need to see your particular difficulty on this list to get in touch. Sometimes it’s difficult to put a name to what you’re experiencing, or there may be several things going on at once. We can start with where you are and work from there.
